Producing only five or six different wines
When it comes to wine in the states, so many people are loyal to the vines of California, Washington, New York and Oregon, but dismissing Texas as a wine-producing state would be a massive mistake for wine lovers.
Lucky for Fort Hood, Central Texas is home to the Texas Hill Country and its more than 40 wineries and vineyards to discover and explore.
Some of the wineries are tucked away and very small, producing only five or six different wines (meaning they are perfected), and others are a little larger, producing as many as 30 wines.
It should come as no surprise that Georgetown has two of the most popular wineries in Central Texas, both of which I visited, and will highlight in separate Traveling Soldier articles.
This edition, I’ll focus on Grape Creek Vineyards. Grape Creek has two locations, with the one in Georgetown being the extension of the mothership winery and vineyard (their word, not mine!) in Fredericksburg – don’t be surprised if another article on Grape Creek shows up for Traveling Soldiers; the Fredericksburg location is in my sights.
The store in Georgetown is obviously smaller than the one in Fredericksburg, where the vineyards flow out behind the wine-tasting room and venue.
